Closing the Parity Gap in Godot
Today was focused on bridging differences between the original Zig implementation and the Godot adaptation. Fog of war is back, the background star field is in place, and the main menu, game setup screen, and star map all got a visual lift.
Zoom capabilities were adjusted to display the entire galaxy simultaneously, and animated notifications were successfully implemented — a deceptively tricky task.
Additional improvements included consolidating notification functionality into a dedicated system, reorganizing building mechanics, and resolving several interface issues where clicks were passing through panels to the map.
A code review yielded strong results: ChatGPT gave CLAUDE.md a 9.5/10 after a full audit. Quality improvements included removing incompatible typed arrays and eliminating debug statements.
Claude performs effectively within Godot when the environment is more stable. Future work involves continuing bug resolution and advancing toward complete feature parity.
